Solutions

June 9, 2009

Heidi Nelson
City of Ramsey
7550 Sunwood Dr NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

Dear Heidi:

I am again requesting that you include Mediation Services in your 2010 City of Ramsey budget
to provide professional dispute resolution services, referral, and conflict resolution education to
your community as you have in the past. This request of 11 cents per capita is $2,426.00,
unchanged since 2008. Our own budget has been trimmed in reaction to state and other funding
cuts, but this request is critical to maintaining our quality services.

Mediation Services for Anoka County, a non profit organization utilizing trained and supervised
volunteer mediators, celebrates 22 years of providing free or low cost conflict resolution services
to the community. In 2008 our agency did the following for your residents:

15 Students in the Peaceful Alternatives Class
10 Shared Parenting Cases
5 Community Cases
1 Restorative Justice Cases
289 Information and Referral Cases
320 Total city residents served (Cost of potential litigation would be an expensive
alternatiye.)

Please contact me at 763-422-8878 if you have any questions. I am also available to attend a
budget or township council meeting and explain our services and referral process. You are also
welcome to visit our agency. We're here to serve you and hope you make use of MSAC as a
resource to help your residents create peaceful solutions to conflict.

SinCerely,
cK~~".I~~M~.
Kathi Jel[;;.....-~
Executive Director
kathie@mediationservice.org

252bCoonRapids Blvd. Suite 100 Coon Rapids, MN 55433
phone: 763-422-8878 fax: 763-422-0808 www.mediationservice.org

A United Way Community Partner
