Case # 3

2009 BUSINESS APPRECIATION DAY RECAP
By: Sean Sullivan, Economic Development Coordinator

Background:

The City of Ramsey EDA hosted the 2009 Business Appreciation Day on August 18th at the Links. At
Northfork. The event was well attended and there was certainly a good time'had by all. 34 teams, consisting
of 136 Ramsey business people and City officials, enjoyed a beautiful day at the Links and capped it off with a
dinner and awards ceremony. Team RIDE SAFE, led by former EDA member, Martin Schindel won first prize
with a score of 11 under par. Cobom's Superstore was chosen as business of the year and was officially
inducted into the Ramsey Business Hall of Fame. Mitch Utecht, accepted the award on behalf of Cobom's. In
a down year for the economy the turnout for this event was excellent.

City staff operated under a tight budget of $3000 and a conscious effort to lower the cost for participation. A
divot tool with a City of Ramsey monogrammed ball mark was distributed to all participants instead of a more
expensive item (Jacket, Chair, Shirt) like in past years. A copy of the 2009 budget is attached for review.
Ramsey businesses continued to show their support for this event by donating numerous prizes and sponsoring
holes for the event. (See Attached) Life Fitness donated an X-7 Trainer, which has a cash value of well over
. $2000, and a Kayak donated by Cobom's was a crowd favorite. Staff believes that this event has significant
business retention and recruitment value and would like to see it return for 2010.

Funding Source: N/ A

Recommendation:

None

EDA Action:

Based on Discussion

Attachments:

2009 Business Appreciation Day Budget
Hole Sponsor List
Prize Donor List

EDA: 09.02.09

21
