Public Notice

Recycling Plastics

Recycling plastic can be confus-
ing... what is and is not recyclable?
Plastic products each have a number
on them, ranging from 1-7 (a resin
code) within the chasing arrows
symbol. This represents the type of
chemical compound used to make
the product. However, that does not
indicate that the product is recyclable.
Fmiher confusing matters, plas-
tics with the same resin code can be
manufactured differently, and each
process uses different additives with
different propeliies, which cannot be
mixed during the recycling process.
In Ramsey's curbside recycling
program, only plastic containers with
"necks" (the container is narrower at
the top than at the base), marked with
numbers 1 or 2, are accepted for re-
cycling. These are the only types of
plastic that currently have the supply,
infrastructure and market conditions
to make recycling feasible.
Plastics used for kids' toys,
packaging, food storage products
(such as Tupperware), as well as # 1
and #2 plastics witllOut a neck (such
as margarine and yogmi tubs, and
"clam shell" containers used to pack-

age many fruits) are NOT recyclable
at tllis time. Containers for chemi-
cal products regardless of the type
of plastic, should be placed in the
garbage after the contents have been
used or disposed of properly.
A couple quick facts about plas-
tics and recycling:
Manufacturing new plastic con-
sumes eight percent (8%) of the
world's oil production.
Recycling a single plastic bottle
conserves enough energy to
power a television long enough
to see your favorite show.
Plastic bottles take 700 years
before tlley begin to breakdown
in a landfill.
If you have questions about
Ramsey's recycling program, please
contact Chris Anderson at 763-433-
9905 or visit the website at www.
ci.ramsey.mn.us and click on the
recycling tab. If you have questions
about whetller a specific product
is accepted for curbside collection,
please contact ACE Solid Waste at
763-427-3110 or by email at ser-
vice@acesolidwaste.com.

~

Mayor Bob
Ramsey Invites
you to Attend
Monthly Town
Hall Meetings!

. . . . .
~ You are lll-
~ ~ vited to stop in
for coffee and
a cookie and
talk with Mayor Bob Ramsey every
third Thursday of the month at 7: 00
pm. Please be aware that this
flushing, while it is necessary, will create a disturbance in the
system causing low pressure and it may cause your water to be
discolored. AltllOugh the water may be discolored by iron, it
is fit for human consumption but it may stain clotlles that are
being washed. To alleviate this problem, you may want to fill
your washer with water and check on its clarity before adding
your clothes. We appreciate your patience and regret any in-
convenience that this may cause.
