<br />The Council will recall that in March 2009, two full time Building Inspectors <br />were laid-off; in addition, on tonight's regular agenda, Council is asked to <br />authorize the lay-off of a building inspector and the building division secretary <br />position. This transition to contracted inspection services would result in the lay- <br />off of one additional building inspector position, leaving no in-house building <br />inspectors. Staff is seeking direction regarding contracting for buildin$! insvection <br />services. <br /> <br />Buildin2: Division activity 2:enerated bv permits/inspections. From January 1, <br />2008 through July 31, 2009 the building division processed, reviewed and issued <br />6465 permits with a building valuation of $46,832,019, conducted 10,789 separate <br />inspections and countless hours of phone/counter consultations. The following is <br />a breakdown of the number of permits issued in each category for the time period <br />of January 1,2008 through July 31, 2009. The number in parentheses 0 <br />represents the average number of inspections for each perinit: <br /> <br />82 <br />6 <br />3 <br />41 <br />48 <br />52 <br />16 <br />3427 <br /> <br />single family homes <br />commercial builds <br />townhome building (18 dwelling units) <br />commercial remodel <br />. garages <br />additions <br />swimming pools <br />Miscellaneous (decks, roofs, siding, windows, remodeling etc.) <br /> <br />(10) <br />(12) <br />(6) <br />(6) <br />(3) <br />(8) <br />(3) <br />(2.5) <br /> <br />The permit and plan review fees retained by the city for this time period and these <br />6465 permits was $878,377.95.
