The Council will recall that in March 2009, two full time Building Inspectors were laid-off; in addition, on tonight's regular agenda, Council is asked to authorize the lay-off of a building inspector and the building division secretary position. This transition to contracted inspection services would result in the lay- off of one additional building inspector position, leaving no in-house building inspectors. Staff is seeking direction regarding contracting for buildin$! insvection services. Buildin2: Division activity 2:enerated bv permits/inspections. From January 1, 2008 through July 31, 2009 the building division processed, reviewed and issued 6465 permits with a building valuation of $46,832,019, conducted 10,789 separate inspections and countless hours of phone/counter consultations. The following is a breakdown of the number of permits issued in each category for the time period of January 1,2008 through July 31, 2009. This information is being provided for Council reference and for future discussions the 2010 budget.
