CASE # I

CONSIDER AWARD OF BIDS FOR
IP09-22 2009 STORM SEWER IMPROVEMENTS
By Steven Jankowski, Assistant City Engineer

Background:

Bids will be opened on. Friday September 25, 2009 and presented to the Council for
consideration of award. These storm sewer improvements have been previously reviewed by the
City Council and the Public Works Committee. This project consists of drainage improvements
to be made in five separate locations of the city. A brief description of each project is presented
below:

148th Ln & Kamacite St. - This project involves the installation of a 15 inch high density
polyethylene (HDPE) in the rear yard, and the right of way easement of Kama cite Street and 14Sth
Lane. This project is being undertaken to eliminate a standing water problem that occurs
consistently in the spring of each year and intermittently during the remaining warm weather
months.

174th Ave. & Sodium St. - This project involves the pavement removal and regrading of this
intersection and the installation of concrete curb 8.\1d gutter and a concrete street cross gutter across
174th Street. The purpose is to redirect the drainage from the existing storm sewer structure on the
north side of the intersection to the east flow line of the gutter of Sodium Street. The project will
also repair the eroded bluff caused by the existing 6 inch PVC pipe discharge.

163rd & Llama - This project involves the removal of the existing catch basins and storm pipe, and
installation of a new reinforced concrete pipe storm sewer in 163rd Avenue to eliminate a recurring
drainage problem which results in the flooding of a residential property located on the comer of
163rd Avenue and Marmoset Street.

Kangaroo St. north of 163rdAve. - This project involves the installation of a catch basin and
reinforced concrete pipe outlet discharging into a drainage and utility easement. The project is
being undertaken to eliminate a recurring erosion problem.

152nd Ave. & Jaspar St. - This project involves the pavement removal and regrading of
approximately 500 linear feet of Jaspar Street north of 152nd Ave. This segment of street is
extremely flat and has evidence of numerous puddles on the pavement. A storm sewer will
be installed to replace an existing spillway which is responsible for erosion occurring along
a common property line and the flooding of a private storage shed. Restoration of the street
will include concrete curb and gutter on the affected portions of Jaspar Street and 152nd
Avenue.
