approximately $16,000 (Park T:mst fund monies) from 2003 Alpine Park C.I.P. project. $12,090
would fund the work, and approximately $3,000 would be .available to reimburse the 2003 parks
operating budget for expenses already incmTed (should it be necessary) and approximately
$1,000 for contingencies. Mr. Riverblo~0d noted that there would also be a lot of grant monies
available if they were to use recycled materials.

Motion by Councilmember Zirnmerman, seconded by Councilmember Elvig, to recommend that
the City Council authorize the use of $16,000 of Park Trust Fund monies for the 2003 Alpine
Pm'k C.I.P. project.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Elvig, and Councih'nember Zimmerman. Voting No:
None.

Case #3: Discussion Item: Funding of Tennis Court Resurfacing

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler stated that there is a large safety concern with the
cracking of the termhs courts at Titterud Park. If the City is going to consider resurfacing the
courts it would make sense to resurface the tennis courts at River's Bend Park as well.

Councilrnember Zimmerman inquired if the re,mis courts had ever been resurfaced.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood replied that the courts had been resurfaced several years
ago. He explained that there are two options. One option would be to fill the cracks and the
other option would be to resurface the courts.

Finance Officer Lund noted that the tennis courts were resurfaced in 1988.

Councilmember Elvig questioned the cost of resUrfacing the courts.

Parks,q, Jtilities Supervisor tLiverblood replied that the cost would be from $13,000 to $19,000 for
both tennis courts.

Councih-nember Zima'nerman inquired as to how much it would cost to ~511 the cracks.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor 1Liverblood explained that the City can request bids with an alternate
for patching only and then staff can bring that information back with funding options.

Councilmember Elvig inquired as to where the funds would come from.

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied that staff would have to look at funding
options, but noted that there may be the possibility of ushng depreciation funds.

Finance Officer Lund noted that there was approximately $58,000 in depreciable money for
Titterud Park.

Councilmember Elvig requested that staff bring back the quotes for patching and resurfacing
along with funding options.

-20-

Finance Committee/July 22, 2003
