PAST EXPERIENCE

HOPKINS FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
HOPKINS, MINNESOTA

Collaborative Design Group was selected by the City of Hopkins to provide architectural
and engineering services for a comprehensive upgrade to city-owned facilities. The project
included site planning and selection, re-evaluation of the previous program, evaluation of
the existing buildings, development of several expansion options and building design.

It was determined that the best option for the Public Works building was to retain the
existing precast office and maintenance spaces, and replaced the older 1940's buildings
with a new precast concrete building expansion. The addition includes vehicle storage
space, carpentry/sign shops, water meter shop, garbage truck storage, materials storage,
restrooms and an elevator to the storage mezzanines. The scope of work also involved
renovating the existing lunch room, restrooms, storage and reception areas. The exterior
work included a new fuel island, salt storage, parking and covered materials storage
areas.

The new Hopkins Fire Station replaced an outdated station. The five-bay, 26,000 square
foot volunteer station includes training room, exercise area and office spaces for fire
department administration.

The Hopkins Police Department addition and renovation project fully updates an undersized
and inefficient space. A new reception area was added to the southwest corner of the
building. The remodeled existing building meets objectives for separate public, police and
inmate spaces. The new floor plan provides for better circulation, enlarged dispatch center
and evidence room, new training, meeting rooms, sally port, and additional interview
rooms. Additionally, the city's primary Emergency Operations Center was relocated to the
renovated space.
