US PASSPORT AGENCY
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA

The Minneapolis Federal Office Building (FOB) was built in the early twentieth
century and began life as a post office. It was later used as an induction center
for the armed services, after which it became largely unused. It is scheduled to be
listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Since 2006, Collaborative Design Group has assisted the Government SeNices
Administration (GSA) in renovating the building with the intent of populating it with
primarily office space for government agencies. Projects CDG has designed and
overseen in the FOB include the build out for the Passport Agency, design of a
new accessible entry and lift, elevator modernization, renovation of the building
mechanical system, and design of a new fire protection sprinkler system.

The Passport Agency office involved renovation of 15,000 square feet to provide
a new customer seNice center and the related support areas. Primary elements
of the project included private offices, customer seNice counters, technology-rich
training room and a completely new mechanical system. Due to the nature of
the office, several high level security measures were included such as anti-static
flooring and bullet resistant panels and glazing in the customer service counter.

CDG worked closely with the historic preseNation group within GSA throughout the
mechanical and sprinkler projects to ensure the integrity of the building's historic
elements remained intact. CDG assisted GSA in reviewing historically sensitive
areas of the building and worked with the mechanical and sprinkler designers to
ensure those areas were not adversely affected by the system's design.
