Project Experience

City of Rockford. Rockford City Hall
Rockford, MN

Contact

Nancy Carswell
City Administrator
763.477.6565

BKY Group has provided programming, master planning, and design services for a new City
Hall and Event Center complex for the City of Rockford. The project consists of 5,647 gsf
for City Hall functions and 1,650 gsf I 30 seat event center expandable to accommodate 21 0
seats at 3,300 gsf. The facility is designed to meet a sustainability level equivalent to the LEED
Silver designation.

The final Design concept consists of two primary masses, one which includes the City Hall
and Council Chambers and one which includes the Event Center: A covered roof extension
- referred to as the porch - connects the two buildings creating an "L" configuration. The
overall configuration is derived through functional development and City Council input as
well as urban planning gestures related to definition of park space and continuation of the
town fabric along Main Street

The design reflects the community values established through a visioning workshop as
reflected in the building's relationship with the site. The City Hall site uniquely represents
the landscape of the greater community through Main Street to the South and the River to
the North. The building mass itself extends outward into the park topography through the
use of raised landscape areas consisting of landscape walls or sculpted plateaus and a cov-
ered area, referred to as the porch, which will function as an area for rest, dining, socializing
and enjoying the landscape.

BKV

G B () U p
