UPDATE Ob/CR 116 MEDLMN EXTENSION
By: Steven J. Jankowski, City Engineer

P.W. CASE

Background:

You will recall that Staff was directed to request that Anoka County pursue the installation of a
rig~ht turn lane for eastbound CR 116 at its intersection with T.H.47. Staff sent the County the
9 ~
attached July 2, _00, letter in this regard. Attached is the July 25, 2003 response from County,
En~mneer, Doug Fischer.

Also, Staff has been in contact with Mr. Ken Johnson of Mn/DOT regarding the request to
consider the reopening of the raised median and the installation of a left mm lane into Blue
Velvet Lane. Mr. Johnson verbally advised Staff that a left tt/rn lane at Blue Velvet Lane would
not conform to the Departments.geometric standards. However, Mr. Johnson did state that the
signalization of 142nd Avenue would be considered if it met the warranty identified m the
Manual on Umform Traffic Control Devices. Mr. Johnson promised to follow this up with a
letter.

Additionally, the owners of River's Bend Plaza have requested that signage be considered which
would advise motor/sts the U-tums at southbound to northbound T.H.47 and westbound to
eastbound CR 116 are permitted. I have discussed this request with both ~amoka County and
Mn/DOT and am awaiting a response.

Finally, Pdver's Bend Plaza has also requested that some informational signage be posted on
T.H.47 to better inform travelers c~n how to get into the center. Again, I have discussed this
request with ,Mn_DOT and am awaiting a response on this matter.

Reco mmen dation:

If the City wishes to see the intersection of 142nd and T.H.47 signalized, it should pass a
resolution requesting Mn/DOT to conduct a trafSc .warrant study at this intersection. There is no
cost to the city for such a study.

Action:

Motion to recommend to Council that a resolution requesting a traffic warrant study be
performed by 1Vita/DOT on the intersection of 142nd Avenue and T.~4.47.

Reviewed by:
Director of Public Works/Fire Chief
Assistant Public Works Director/Principal City Engineer

PW: 08/26/03
