Amber Miller

Attachment A

From:
Sent:
To:
Cc:
Subject:

grimmjona@aol.com
Thursday, December 17,20094:41 PM
Amber Miller.
333pce@usfamily.net
Building Use Proposal, Wilson House

On behalf of the Friends of Camp Gronholm, thank you for your diligent consideration of our proposal to move this
building to the Camp, as a possible savings in demolition costs to the City of Ramsey, and a green use of resources.

Our 33 acres is dedicated to Boy Scout uses since acquisition in 1957 from NSP nee Excell Energy. Care of the forest
and facilities has increased with camp use and the devastation of Oak Wilt and Dutch Elm disease. Existing facility is a
rustic bunk house for 28, with a basement area for cooking. We need a training and on-site dwelling for practical hosting
of work parties over extended periods. While Scouts are certainly outdoors, they cannot operate anything more useful
than an axe to work in the forest.

We propose to site the cabin per Sherburne Co Zoning Ordinances relevant to the Mississippi Scenic Riverway Act, to
cater to larger, more capable and diverse volunteer work crews, as well as existing Scout Troops. It would provide a
teaching and training environment that is not possible in the current arrangement.

We invite you to share our vision for getting every/anyone "out," whether training for a Boundary Waters trip, or learning
how to remove Buckthorn. Better facilities will attract more folks to learn a hands-on approach to environmental
stewardship, at whatever comfort and experience level they have. We look forward to meeting with you on the evening of
Jan 5, 2010, to understand ways our proposal can become reality.

Please call me, Joseph Grimme, Arborist and Scout Leader, 612-481-1147 or
Pete O'Brien, Scoutmaster and Campmaster, 612-521-6990 to answer questions or visit the Camp.

On Behalf of the Friends of Camp Granholm, thanks, vefY sincerely, for your time and consideration

Joseph C.
