Board tv1ember Bentz stated that he knows of a website that combs the Federal Registry for grant
opportunities, although it is a s\.lbscription service.

Chairperson Ma.x stated that there really are two standing topics, the Environmental Expo and
Arbor Day, that the Board typically devotes time to and that they should consider what other
items should possibly be included in the next work plan.

Board Member Riley-Daniels stated that invasive species education and outreach could be
included.

Board Member Enstrom stated that he thought the Board should begin looking into a compost
site and get that information to City Council for consideration.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson reminded the Board that an Emerald Ash Borer
community preparedness plan would be required should the city be awarded grant monies
through the Department of Agriculture,

Chuirperson Max summarized what the Board agreed should be on the work plan as follows:
. Environmental Expo · EAB preparedness plan and education
. Arbor Day event · Invasive species educa.tion and outreach
. Researching compost site possibilities . Storm water educ~ltion and outreach

The consensus of the Beurd was thut Staff should compile the proposed work plan and present it
at the January meeting.

Case #3:

2010 Environmental Expo

Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report.

Board Member Bentz stated that he believed that the Board should have information and poster
boards of invasive species as a part of their booth this year.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson st~lted that while the Board could begin to discuss what
their booth would include this year, the purpose of this case really was to see if the Board would
be willing and/or interested to get more involved with the event planning. The Board always has
a lot of good input regarding the event, but there is only one staff person to coordinate and
organize everything and, especially with staff levels being reduced, it is going to be very difficult
to take this on without additional support. He explained that as an example, there is an actual
Happy Days Committee responsible for all of the planning of that event l;U1d Staff is there more
for assistance and to let them know what is and is not possible. He asked if the Board would be
willing to have more direct involvement with the Environmental Expo event.

The Board discussed this for some time and ultimately agreed that they could dedicate much of
the first couple months of the year to expo planning.

Envil'omnental Coordinator Anderson stated that the event typically is the last Saturday in April,
however, this year, he will be out of town during that time and so an alternate date would need to

Environmental Policy Board / December 7, 2009
Page 3 of 5
