Survey of nearby communities - architectural standards/review practices <br /> <br />Anoka - Bulk standards (setbacks, minimum square footage, etc) but no specific design <br />criteria. May begin to implement in specific parts of the city, such as the downtown area. <br /> <br />Andover - SF: In new residential plats, a particular house style cannot be used within <br />300' of another house of the same style. No other design standards. MF: All MF done <br />though a Planned Unit Development (PUD), all design elements negotiated through this <br />process. <br /> <br />Brooklyn Park - Architectural standards are formally applied to a designated growth <br />area, though the standards are also informally applied to new development in other areas. <br />Staff reviews projects for compliance with the standards. <br /> <br />Blaine - No formal architectural standards, but many design elements negotiated through <br />PUD process and Development Flex zoning. Staff reviews plans and negotiates design <br />elements with developers. <br /> <br />Champlin - No formal architectural standards, but many design elements negotiated <br />through PUD process. Very few non-PUD subdivisions are currently done in the City. <br />For SF, a residential block may not have more than 2 of the same house style (per 5 <br />units). Staff reviews plans and negotiates design elements with developers. <br /> <br />Coon Rapids - Formal standards applied to Coon Rapids Blvd. overlay district, but the <br />Planning Commission has directed staff to investigate applying these standards to all new <br />development.
