Councilmember Jeffrey stated that if this is the way staff wants to go -let's go with it. <br />Councilmember Look stated he would like a little better numbers -this does not really <br />represent true cost considering training and everything. <br />Councilmember Elvig agreed there are other costs involved but it does not really matter. <br />Councilmember Wise agreed it doesn't matter. Councilmember Elvig added he did not <br />need to see any more. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the difference in firms -Councilmember Jeffrey stated we <br />need to trust Mr. Kaehler's judgment. Council and staff talked about the flexibility <br />aspect and maybe having inspections on weekends, evenings, etc. <br />Consensus was to move forward and give staff the latitude to pick someone and come <br />back on December 8 to authorize the contract. <br />6) Cost Analysis of City Events <br />Management Intern Hendricks presented a spreadsheet showing the cost of City events. <br />Deputy City Administrator Nelson stated that as part of the 2010 budget, the question <br />was posed about what do we actually spend on these City events, staff time, etc. We are <br />not looking for something specific; we just want to share this with Council and to see if <br />Council has any direction for staff. <br />City Administrator Ulrich stated we will look at this for future budget discussion.. <br />Councilmember Elvig suggested that when you put under administrative costs for Happy <br />Days to lay that out a little different. Ms. Hendricks responded that this number reflects <br />people's actual wages for that. Ms. Nelson stated that we had some considerable <br />discussion about should we include soft costs as well - it's a consumption of resources. <br />Councilmember Look stated that $54,000 for Happy Days - we have briefly discussed <br />calling in professionals and they would give us a percentage. That's a lot of money and <br />we should be looking at that. <br />Councilmember McGlone stated that he would advocate for privatizing the event and <br />have staff to check that out. <br />Councilmember Dehen mentioned the Safety Camp to which Mr. Ulrich stated that has <br />strong support - we could look at sponsorship. Councilmember Dehen noted that that <br />took up a quarter of someone's time. Discussion ensued relating to the expenses for <br />Safety Camp.
