Tom Weaver, Met Council, believed a transit station in the City made sense, but there were <br />certain criteria that had to be met. <br />Adam Harrington, Met Council, presented a draft of the- Commuter Rail Station Screening <br />Criteria. <br />Mr. Weaver noted the Met Council would support the transit station, but the City would need to <br />find the funding. <br />Council discussed having a decision made as soon as possible before permission is given to <br />Burlington Northern for clean-up of contaminated site. <br />Natalie Hass Steffen noted the Met Council was a regional planning and funding agency. She <br />indicated the Met Council has heard the City's concerns, suggestions, and plans, but the Met <br />Council. could not ignore funding partners. She stated the Met Council would not put up any <br />roadblocks in the City's quest for a transit station. <br />Councilmember Look stated if the City found 14 million to build a transit station, the train would <br />stop once the station was built. <br />Mr. Weaver responded if the City financed it, the train would stop. <br />City Administrator Ulrich noted there was consideration of getting provisional approval so the <br />City could apply for Federal grants. <br />Mr. Weaver responded Met Council would support the City for the Transit Station. <br />2) 2010 Legislative Update <br />Postponed to City Council Meeting. <br />3) East Meandering Commons Park <br />City Engineer Himmer reviewed staff's report. <br />Bruce Johnson, Close Architecture, presented the concept plan for the park: <br />Councilmember Elvig stated he would like to look at renaming the park. <br />Councilmember Look stated the issue was not the cost of .construction, but the cost of <br />maintaining the park, which was a large issue. He indicated he would like Autumn Blaze Maple <br />trees put in. <br />Councilmember Elvig expressed concern about the site lines in and around the amphitheater. <br />City Engineer Himmer reviewed the funding sources available for the park plan, <br />City Council Work Session /January 26, 2010 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />
