Ramsey Fire Department <br />Year End Report for 2009 <br />Emergency Response <br />In 2009 Ramsey experienced only 3 structure fires with an estimated dollar loss of <br />$8000. Not added was the value of the unoccupied home at 14765 Nowthen Blvd which <br />was scheduled for demolition. If this was an occupied home, the value of loss for the <br />structure only could be estimated at $112,000. For contents and vehicle fires, loss value <br />can be estimated at $28,000 or a total of $36,000. The $36,000 loss for 2009 is <br />compared to an estimated loss of $158,700 for 2008. This figure is for fire damage in <br />Ramsey only, excluding Nowthen and any mutual aid responses outside Ramsey. <br />• Total calls tallied 453 for 2009, compared to 491 in 2008, and 489 for 2007. A <br />history of call volume to 1993 is presented later in the report. <br />• Personal Injury accidents, as in the past, continue as the single biggest source of <br />activity with 115 responses. This number includes 4 extrications, 19 Cardiac <br />Arrests and 3 water rescue. The 115 calls in 2009 is compared to 126 in 2008 <br />and 110 in 2007. The 115 Personal Injury responses represent 25% of the total <br />responses by the fire department. This compares to 26% in 2008. <br />• Alarms were again the second largest activity with 82 calls for service, down from <br />117 in 2008 or 18% of the total. <br />Illegal burning was again the third largest at 64 in 2009. This compares to 52 in <br />2008. The 64 responses represent 14% of the total. <br />Responses to Nowthen totaled 69 including 6 structure fire responses, 17 <br />Personal Injury Accidents and 12 Alarms. The Nowthen numbers are included in <br />the totals above. <br />In 2009 Ramsey Fire utilized the Duty Officer response to a total of 181 calls. This <br />response sends 1-2 fire officers to less drastic incidents rather than a full department <br />response. Types of calls were some alarm calls, illegal burning, resident questions, <br />Carbon Monoxide Alarms, etc. The total number of Duty Officer Responses in 2008 was <br />181 as compared to 180 in 2008 and 174 in 2007. <br />
