Ramsey Fire Department
Year End Report for 2009
Emergency Response
In 2009 Ramsey experienced only 3 structure fires with an estimated dollar loss of
$8000. Not added was the value of the unoccupied home at 14765 Nowthen Blvd which
was scheduled for demolition. If this was an occupied home, the value of loss for the
structure only could be estimated at $112,000. For contents and vehicle fires, loss value
can be estimated at $28,000 or a total of $36,000. The $36,000 loss for 2009 is
compared to an estimated loss of $158,700 for 2008. This figure is for fire damage in
Ramsey only, excluding Nowthen and any mutual aid responses outside Ramsey.
• Total calls tallied 453 for 2009, compared to 491 in 2008, and 489 for 2007. A
history of call volume to 1993 is presented later in the report.
• Personal Injury accidents, as in the past, continue as the single biggest source of
activity with 115 responses. This number includes 4 extrications, 19 Cardiac
Arrests and 3 water rescue. The 115 calls in 2009 is compared to 126 in 2008
and 110 in 2007. The 115 Personal Injury responses represent 25% of the total
responses by the fire department. This compares to 26% in 2008.
• Alarms were again the second largest activity with 82 calls for service, down from
117 in 2008 or 18% of the total.
Illegal burning was again the third largest at 64 in 2009. This compares to 52 in
2008. The 64 responses represent 14% of the total.
Responses to Nowthen totaled 69 including 6 structure fire responses, 17
Personal Injury Accidents and 12 Alarms. The Nowthen numbers are included in
the totals above.
In 2009 Ramsey Fire utilized the Duty Officer response to a total of 181 calls. This
response sends 1-2 fire officers to less drastic incidents rather than a full department
response. Types of calls were some alarm calls, illegal burning, resident questions,
Carbon Monoxide Alarms, etc. The total number of Duty Officer Responses in 2008 was
181 as compared to 180 in 2008 and 174 in 2007.
