Case # 4

2010 NETWORKING EVENTS

By: Sean M. Sullivan, Economic Dev~lopment Coordinator

Background:

City official and staff have sporadically attended events for the Area Chambers, Rotary, Business
Appreciation and other organizations in the area. Golf is a major theme for these networking
events and that presents a great opportunity to get to know some people "out of their element"
and to build relationships. Staff is suggesting that the EDA fund some "foursomes", consisting
of a combination of City staff, and officials, and Ramsey businesses to attend events of this type.
This would be considered part of our business retention program that also included the business
appreciation event, the business expo and business connection meetings. On average these
events cost between $320 to $600 dollars per team registration. Last year the EDA participated
in the following events: Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce, Ramsey Rotary, Mercy and Unity
Hospital Foundation, and the Ramsey Lions. The EDA also paid for a $1000 bogie sponsorship
for the Unity Hospital Event. Staff is looking for authorization to spend up to $3000
(Approximately 6 foursomes) for these types of events as determined by the Economic
Development Coordinator.

Funding Source: EDA Levy

Staff Recommendation: Authorize $3000 for registration to businesses networking events at the
discretion of the Economic Development Coordinator.

EDA Action: Motion to authorize $3000 for registration to businesses networking events at the
discretion of the Economic Development Coordinator.

EDA: 02.11.10
