PCyor <br />CONSIDER A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING <br />THE RESIGNATION OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR <br />By: Givonna Reed Kone, Human Resources Manager <br />Background <br />On February 17, 2010, Economic Development Coordinator Sean Sullivan submitted a letter of resignation. <br />Mr. Sullivan's last day of employment with the City will be March 3, 2010. <br />The City Administrator, Deputy City Administrator/Director of Community Development and <br />Human Resources Manager have discussed the City's short term priorities with regard to the <br />Economic Development Coordinator position. Staff is requesting some flexibility with regard to <br />increasing the Management Intern's hours by 10 hours per week which will enable her to take on <br />some of the Economic Development Coordinator's responsibilities, particularly special business <br />events. In addition, staff is requesting authorization to utilize consultants, as needed, to evaluate <br />potential TIF projects, design financial assistance packages, and to coordinate business subsidy <br />hearings with the City Council. Existing staff will take on EDA presentations and TIF reporting. <br />At a future meeting of the City Council, staff will present long term recommendations for <br />addressing the Economic Development Coordinator vacancy. <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Staff recommends that the City Council accept the resignation of Sean Sullivan and authorize <br />staff to increase work hours for the Management Intern and utilize a consultant, as needed, to <br />evaluate potential TIF projects, design financial assistance packages, and to coordinate business <br />subsidy hearings with the City Council. Existing staff will take on EDA presentations and TIF <br />reporting. <br />Funding Source <br />Salary savings from the Economic Development Coordinator position will be used to fund staff <br />and consultant time. Funds will be taken from applicable TIF districts and the EDA Levy. <br />Committee Action <br />Make a motion recommending that the City Council accept the resignation of the Economic <br />Development Coordinator and authorize staff to increase work hours for the Management Intern <br />and utilize a consultant, as needed, to evaluate potential TIF projects, design financial assistance <br />packages, and to coordinate business subsidy hearings with the City Council. <br />Reviewed by: <br />City Administrator <br />PC: 2 -23 -10 <br />
