In 2009, approximately 74
applications for rental of single family and multi - family units were processed. Each application requires
an inspection of the unit; sometimes two or more inspections are required to bring the unit into
compliance with rental standards. City Council is currently considering options to alter or eliminate this
program.
Annual North Suburban Home Improvement Show
Another project the Building Division is proud to continue is its involvement in the annual North
Suburban Home Improvement Show. This event invites local building contractors, residents, and City
staff to come together for an opportunity to share local services and building programs. The great
success of this show is evident in the fact the booth rental space continues to sell out. In addition to
serving on the planning committee with several other staff members from the Cities of Anoka, Andover,
and Coon Rapids, the City of Ramsey staff annually provides several education programs at the Home
Show for those residents of various cities who attend.
Planning Division
The Planning Division was involved in several significant planning endeavors during 2009, most notably
the completion of the 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update. The Planning Division also participated in
efforts to revitalize the Ramsey Town Center. The Planning Division also coordinated Census 2010
efforts in preparation for the upcoming update.
2030 Comprehensive Plan Update
As required by State Statute, the City completed its 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update (previously
named the 2008 Comprehensive Plan Update), which is the guiding document for land use policies
through the year 2030. On January 27, the Metropolitan Council approved the Comprehensive Plan, as
well as the Tier II Comprehensive Sanitary Sewer Plan.
With the approval from the Metropolitan Council, the City must now update its official controls,
including the Zoning Code. These updates will also include formal re- zonings for those parcels approved
City of Ramsey Page 2009 Annual Report
12
2006 2007 2008 2009
