-15-

Metro flant

a. The MWCC should market heat-dried secondary sludge from the
Metro Plant. Primary sludge would be incinerated to provide
heat to process and dry the secondary sludge. If marketing
of heat-dried sludge is not feasible land application and/or
incineration would be pursued.

b.

The MWCC should pursue land application on private farms of
digested sludge from Anoka, Stillwater, Rosemount, Hastings,
Bayport and Cottage Grove plants. If the digested sludge
cannot be land applied because of availability of
land, climatic or operational conditions, the sludge would be
transported by truck to sewer interceptors flowing to the
Metro Plant. Unthickened sludge would be hauled to sewer
interceptors flowing to the Metro Plant from Anoka,
Stillwater, Rosemount and Hastings plants and thickened
sludge from Bayport and Cottage Grove plants.

.

Seneca Plant
--

Continue the current practice of total sludge incineration.

~lu~ Lake flant

a. The MWCC should construct thickeners, anaerobic digesters
and dewatering devices and apply the digested sludge to
land. . It is recommended tha t Scottland Properties, Which
the MWCC owns, plus 140 acres of adjacent land be used for
sludge disposal. This land will be sufficient to dispose of
only one half the sludge prOduced. Therefore, an additional
600 acres of private farmland will be needed.

.

b .

The thickened sludge from Chaska and unthickened sludge from
Maple Plain plants should be hauled to interceptors flowing
to Blue Lake, and unthickened sludge from the 'Savage plan t
should be hauled directly to the Blue Lake plant.

Empire flant

Continue the current sludge processing system and spreading on
MWCC-owned land.

Grit and SC~!ling:!.

The MWCC should continue to use commercial haUling and landfil-
ling of grit and screenings. If costs become prohibitive, the
MWCC should be prepared to transport the grit and screenings to
its own landfill facility.
