Councilmember Look introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #09-11-258 <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING STAFF TO APPLY FOR 2010 FOREST <br />PROTECTION RESERVE-PLANNING AND PREPAREDNESS GRANT <br />MONIES TRHOUGH THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE <br />WHEREAS, grant monies were appropriated from the Outdoor Heritage Fund to <br />the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to combat the threat posed by the non-native, <br />invasive forest pest known as Emerald Ash Borer (EAB); and <br />WHEREAS, the grant monies are available to local units of government and are <br />intended to help communities plan and prepare for the invasion of EAB; and <br />WHEREAS, grant monies can be used to inventory public trees, remove ash trees <br />and replant with other species, and promote more public awareness of EAB; and <br />WHEREAS, there is a fifteen percent (15%) matching component required to <br />receive grant funds and in-kind services are eligible to satisfy matching requirement; and <br />WHEREAS, an EAB preparedness plan is also required to be in place at the time <br />of grant application or within six (6) months of the grant, if awarded, and the <br />Environmental Policy Board is interested in developing such a plan; and <br />WHEREAS, the Environmental Policy Board fully supports seeking these grant <br />monies to help maintain and protect the community forest. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby authorizes Staff to apply for Forest <br />Protection Reserve-Planning and Preparedness monies through the Minnesota <br />Department of Agriculture. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by <br />Councilmember Dehen, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor <br />thereof: <br />Mayor Ramsey <br />Councilmember Look <br />Councilmember Dehen <br />Councilmember McGlone <br />Councilmember Wise <br />
