Mayor Ramsey introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #09-07-150 <br />RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE RAMSEY LIONS FOR THEIR SIGNIFICANT <br />CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE RAMSEY COMMUNITY <br />WHEREAS, the mission statement of Lions Club International is as follows: "To empower <br />volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote <br />international understanding through Lions clubs"; and <br />WHEREAS, since its inception in 1972, the Ramsey Lions Club has lived up to and far <br />exceeded this mission; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey Lions Club raises money through Charitable Gambling and other <br />fundraising events with all proceeds going to support Lions Sight and Hearing programs (they have <br />donated over $100,000 toward the Children's Hearing Foundation at the University of Minnesota and <br />$3,000 to each of several other organizations supporting hearing or visual services), charitable needs, <br />scholarships and youth programs within our community; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey Lions Club provided a community picnic for countless years as <br />well as sponsoring the 55 Alive Safe Driving Courses and contributing to the City's Happy Days <br />Community event; and <br />WHEREAS, a sampling of the purchases or programs the Ramsey Lions Club has either <br />partially or completely contributed to over the years are as follows: <br />Defibrillator Units -Police & Fire <br />Photography equipment and dark room for Police Department <br />Annual Safety Camp -Police & Fire <br />CompuKid ID System -Police <br />Bike Road-eo & Bile Helmets -Police <br />Uniforms & Water Rescue Survival Suits -Fire Department <br />All original extrication equipment for both Fire Stations <br />Community Billboard sign at Old Municipal Center <br />Tasers & Ballistic Vests for the Police Reserves <br />Police Explorers Program <br />Provided over 100 needy families holiday food baskets at Easter, Thanksgiving & Christmas <br />Wellness Van <br />Central Park Shelter; and <br />WHEREAS, given that the Ramsey Lions Club donated the money that funded the <br />construction of the Park Shelter at Central Park, adopting this resolution demonstrates support in <br />naming the shelter in honor of the service and dedication of the Ramsey Lions to the Ramsey <br />community; and <br />WHEREAS, a sign and/or monument erected at and/or on the shelter would be a way of <br />recognizing the Ramsey Lions for their work in our community. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />
