CASE # (• Oq
INTRODUCE ORDINANCE TO AMEND SEC 117 -1 DEFINITIONS
OF THE CITY CODE
CASE OF CITY OF RAMSEY
By: Amber G. Miller, Planning Manager
Background:
In December, the Planning Commission recommended approval of the residential off - street
parking ordinance and in January that ordinance was approved by the City Council. As the City
Council may recall, upon approval of the ordinance, Staff would draft new definitions to clarify
some of the off - street parking items to help ease enforcement and clear up any conflicts due to
the new code.
Notification:
In accordance with State Statute and City.Code, the March 4, 2010 public hearing notice for the
most recent version of the proposed ordinance was published in the City's official newspaper.
Analysis:
With the changes to the off - street parking section of the City Code, staff needed to clarify some
definitions. Most notably the definition of screening needed to be updated to reflect the two
standards now included in the Code. Staff also added a definition of Parking Pad and redefined
Driveway, Commercial Vehicle, and Commercial Equipment. City Council requested
specifically that we look at the definitions of Commercial Vehicle and Commercial Equipment to
make certain they are more understandable to the residents. Attached is the proposed ordinance
with amendments. Additions are indicated as underlined deletions are indicated as a
striledffeugh.
Funding:
Amendments to City Code are handled through normal staff duties.
Recommendation:
Planning Commission held a Public Hearing on the proposed ordinance on March 4"', 2010 and
recommended approval of the ordinance.
City Council Action:
Motion to Introduce Ordinance #10- to amend Chapter 117 -1, definitions.
