In case of <br />disability or the clerk's absence from the city, the council may appoint a <br />deputy clerk, if there isn't one, to serve during the disability or absence. <br />The deputy clerk may carry out any of the clerk's duties, except he or she <br />can not be a member of the city council. <br />Minn. Stat. § 412.02. subd. <br />1. <br />C. Appointment and removal <br />How a clerk takes office and is removed from office depends on the type of <br />city and the form of government. <br />1. Standard Plan cities — Elected clerks <br />Clerks in Standard Plan cities are elected. Voters choose a clerk in the <br />city's general election.
