LRRWMO Meeting Minutes
June 21, 1989
Page 5
A motion was made by Weaver, seconded by Mathisen, to
accept the Draft Guidelines for the Lower Rum River WMO and
submit both proposals for reviewing projects to the respec-
tive member cities for their review and comment. Said
comments shall be brought back to this board at the July
meeting. All voted yes. Motion carried.
Upon discussion of other matters, Mathisen queried the
status of the proposed Rum River Minimum Wake Ordinance at
the county level. Schrantz indicated that it doesn't sound
as if any action will take place this year.
A motion was made by Mathisen, seconded by Raatikka,
direction that the Recording Secretary draft a letter to
Anoka County Commission Chairman Dan Erhart requesting a
update on the status of the ordinance.
Schrantz briefly discussed the process the county must
go through before any action can be taken on the ordinance.
Weaver stated that there is a great deal of abuse and hazard
happening on the Rum River. Members queried the possibility
of posting signs, especially at the boat launching area, on
an interim emergency basis. Weaver agreed that there would
be no official enforcement, but didn't feel people would
question its authority. Raatikka suggested that the WMO
attorney or county be contacted about the feasibility of such
action. Weaver agreed to telephone Mr. Pearson requesting
his advise on the possibility of signing the public landing
on the public land in the City of Anoka. Schrantz indicated
that Pam McCabe is working on the matter in the County
Attorney's office. Weaver would be reporting back to Chair-
man Schrantz.
Vote on the motion: All voted yes. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
Recording Secretary Mava Mikkonen queried what her
specific duties are or will be, urging each member to realize
that at present she is considered the Recording Secretary.
She urged that each member realize that there is no staff and
unless otherwise directed by the board, she assumes that each
board member will be responsible for communications with
their respective cities and staff. Mathisen asked that this
matter be placed on the July agenda for clarification.
