LRRWMO
Meeting Minutes
April 19, 1989
PAGE 4
A motion was made by Mathisen, seconded by Weaver,
directing our attorney to prepare a letter to the Ramsey City
Council, under the signature of WMO Chairman Schrantz,
expressing this group's view on the issue, relating some of
the history, and reporting that both Anoka and Andover are in
favor of sane control with minimum wake, and that this
proposed action is the first attempt at regulations.
Weaver pointed out that there is some urgency at signing
the access points to stop water and jet skiing yet this year.
He suggested that if nothing else, Ramsey restrict the
waterskiing portion and work out the no wake in time.
Upon voice vote on the motion, all voted yes. Motion
carried.
1. and 2. - Parking Lot Sizes and Standards and Policy
for Reviewing Plats. Members agreed that these agenda items
be held over to the May meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
John Stine, DNR Regional Hydrologist, and Pat Rudolph,
Anoka Co. Soil and Water Conservation District, attended the
meeting to address a proposal for monitoring lake levels.
Mr. Stine stated that the SCS and DNR, along with other
watershed organizations, have put forward an agreement to
establish lake surface water gauges which will provide week
to week information. The proposal was explained. Monetary
contributions received from those participating will be used
to pay the employee hired to monitor the gauges. This
individual will be paid $8.00 per hour with organizational
funding participation set at $200 per lake monitored. The
program is scheduled to begin in early May 1989 to continue
through the open water season, or approximately the end of
October. The LRRWMO would be asked to participate at a cost
of $600.00 for monitoring Rogers Lake, Itasca Lake, and
Sunfish Lake. Ms. Rudolph pointed out that they can monitor
any lakes this body wishes. These three were chosen as the
ones people ask the most questions about.
Schrantz asked that this WMO receive information on
Round Lake although technically it is not listed in our area.
Ms. Rudolph stated that that and any other information will
be available upon request. Mathisen pointed out that the
Water Management Plan states that this body will collect and
maintain data.
A motion was made by Raatikka, seconded by Mathisen,
that the LRRWMO enter into this annual agreement with the SCS
and DNR for the proposed lake monitoring, not to exceed $800
should this body inherit the financial responsibility for
monitoring Round Lake.
