Motion by Commissioner Wise and seconded by Commissioner Look to authorize the contract
with Vyway, in an amount not to exceed $12,000 ($10,000 prepayment with a retainage of
$2,000), and to schedule the session for Monday, November 2, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Motion carried. Voting Yes: All present
The session would include the Steering Committee along with the City Council and staff.
Case #5: Consider Attendance at ICSC Chicago Deal Making
Planning Manager Miller stated that staff is recommending sending Mayor Ramsey
Councilmembers Look and Elvig, City Administrator Ulrich and Economic Development
Coordinator Sullivan to the ICSC Deal Making Conference in Chicago.
Commissioner Look stated that his concern is that some of the participants in this show might be
lower key than we want.
Ms. Miller stated it is a much smaller conference than the Vegas conference and it is much more
meeting orientated.
Commissioner Look asked if we really want to invest in this or push more for the New York
conference.
Ms. Miller felt there was a lot of value to this Chicago conference as there are a lot of brokers
who deal only with Midwest properties. There is value in at least sending a contingent.
Chairperson Dehen suggested sending the Mayor, City Administrator and the Economic
Development Coordinator.
Commissioner Jeffrey understood this was the show to cut the deals with the "big dogs".
Mr. Lazan stated he is disappointed with the turnout this year -the retailers are very
disappointing and it's tough to get time with the brokers. He stated he would urge the
consideration of New York instead.
Commissioner Look stated that if we have some perceived benefit in going to Chicago - he is
okay with that. He felt there was perhaps a benefit to all - LasVegas, Chicago and New York.
Chairperson Dehen stated he is not interested in wasting money on smaller venues and asked if
there are meetings lined up ahead of time.
Ms. Miller stated she did not know at this time what Mr. Sullivan had set up. She added that
these brokers are busy - it will take several calls to get meetings scheduled with them.
Commissioner Ramsey stated he could not believe we are debating this. We need to go - we
need to make a presence. We have already decided we are going.
Housing and Redevelopment Authority /October 6, 2009
Page 9 of 14
