Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan explained that although it is all city money, it does <br />matter where the funds come from. The HRA is the clearing house for the Town Center, and <br />much of the monies in the HRA budget will be allocated to the Town Center. Using EDA funds <br />will result in conserving HRA monies, which will be helpful from the HRA perspective. <br />Member Steffen asked if this is the same conference as last year, and is a booth needed. <br />Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan stated that this is the same conference as last year. <br />A booth will provide dedicated meeting space to better facilitate conversation with interested <br />parties. In addition, it will eliminate'the need to walk around with marketing materials. There <br />will be a one-time set up of materials within the booth, making the time spent there more <br />effective. <br />Member Williams questioned who was preparing the marketing materials, and whether the <br />materials are going to be of comparable quality to others who will be at this national event. <br />Deputy City Administrator/Director of Community Development Nelson replied that VyWay is <br />helping with the project and that astep-above approach is being followed. The marketing <br />materials will be of high quality since the city is taking on the role of developer. <br />Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan suggested that if the cost for materials goes up, a <br />case be brought back to EDA at a later date to ask for additional monetary assistance. <br />Case #4: 2010 NETWORKING EVENTS <br />Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan stated that last year the EDA started a new idea to <br />incorporate bringing businesses, Council, EDA members, and city staff together in a networking <br />setting, with golf being the typical theme. Events attended last year include Anoka Area <br />Chamber of Commerce, Ramsey Rotary, Mercy and Unity Hospital Foundation, and the Ramsey <br />Lions. <br />Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan suggests that if the EDA wants to continue these <br />types of networking events, they should consider funding some golf "foursomes". He is looking <br />for authorization to spend up to $3,000, which is approximately six (6) golf "foursomes" <br />consisting of city staff, officials, and Ramsey businesses. <br />Member Skaff responded by saying networking events are important and that. the money spent on <br />them is made back in the long run. <br />Motion by Member Skaff, seconded by Member Williams, to authorize $3,000 for registration to <br />business networking events at the discretion of the Economic Development Coordinator. <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Members Riley, Skaff, Williams, Look, and Steffen. Voting No: <br />None.
