This trail <br />winds it way 2,655' feet through the beautik'ul maple-basswood forest of King's Island, past the large pond in the <br />center created by the former gravel operation. Four of the S benches and half of the litter receptacles will be <br />appropriately placed along the island trail. <br />At the west bank of the island, the trail will traverse gentle up and above the 100-rear floodplain after crossing <br />the second bridge. This is the location of one of the massive earthen dikes that will be removed by this project - <br />the other is downstream in this same island channel, and -vill be removed separate from this construction process. <br />The dikes were placed in the river channels in the middle part of the last century for -~~ehicle and mining access to <br />the island. T'he pw•pose of the dil:c removals is to restore ecological functioning of the stream channel and <br />riparian ecosystems.
