Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #09-06-XXX <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CITY OF RAMSEY'S APPLICATION TO THE FEDERAL TRANSPORTATION <br />ENHANCEMENT FUND, ADMINISTERED BY THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL'S TRANSPOTATION ADVISORY <br />BOARD TO CONSTRUCT THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER TRAIL BETWEEN THE CITIES OF ANOKA AND RAMSEY <br />WHEREAS, [he City of Ramsey has passed a resolution supporting regional trail status for planned for, and existing trails <br />along the Mississippi River within Anoka and Ramsey; and <br />WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council did grant the regional trail status for this trail in 2006; and <br />WHEREAS, in the Metropolitan Council adopted a Regional Trails Policy Amendment to its Regional Recreation Open <br />Space Development Guidelines/Policy Plan for the implementation of trails which provide access to high quality natural resources, <br />regional parks, park reserves, and local areas of interest; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mississippi River Trail would link together the cities, of Anoka and Ramsey, Bunker Lake and Rum River <br />Regional Trails, as well as being a link in the National trail system; and <br />WHEREAS, this trail may also be extended to connect [he Historic Oliver Kelley Farm and Ramsey's Town Center, and <br />Ramsey Transit Station; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mississippi River Trail will provide immediate pedestrian access to the recreational resources at Riverdale <br />Park, Mississippi West Regional Park, and the Mississippi River, and Anoka's park system; and <br />WHEREAS, the city of Ramsey has identified walkable communities and the Mississippi River Trail as priorities for the <br />community; and. <br />WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council's Transportation Advisory Boazd has called for Transportation Enhancement <br />proposals that would fund the Mississippi River Trail between the cities of Anoka and Ramsey; and <br />WHEREAS, the city of Anoka and Ramsey are uniquely posistioned to cause this trail to be constructed as soon as certain <br />funds are secured; and <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />1. The City of Ramsey City Council endorses the application to the Metropolitan Council's Transportation Advisory Board for <br />Federal funding of the Mississippi River Trail, and <br />2. The City of Ramsey City Council authorizes the City Administrator to send a letter along with the application to guarantee <br />the 20% local match for the project, and <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember and upon vote being taken <br />thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br />and the following voted against: <br />and the following abstained: <br />and the following were absent: <br />Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this the 9a' day of June 2009. <br />Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />City Clerk <br />12 <br />
