As you are aware, Anoka County has developed a Comprehensive Parks and Recreation System Plan that was adopted by the County Board in 2006. A major component of that plan is the creation of a county-wide trail system which includes regional and local community trails. The intent of our planning process is to ensure that all units of government within the county are closely coordinating trail planning activities to ensure the long-term preservation of greemvay corridors and the provision of compatible trail system plans; which in turn, provides alternate methods of transportation throughout the County. We are very encouraged by the funding application the City of Ramsey is submitting to the ARRA Transportation Enhancements Program. As you know, the Mississippi River Trail is a valuable recreational resource and this project will not only create a major transportation alternative, it will provide a critical connection beriveen Anoka County, the City of Ramsey and the City of Anoka. I would urge the Transportation Advisory Board to fund this project. Thank you again for this opportunity to submit a letter of support on behalf of the Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department.
