LRRWMO Meeting Minutes •
December 19, 1996
Page 4
Jankowski asked if this topic is appropriate for a newsletter article as well as a request for a volunteer
to gather data. He noted that to be effective, participation would have to be long-term.
Weaver pointed out this would be 30% of the annual budget and asked how it would be funded.
Ferguson noted that $700 has been allocated for lake monitoring and, perhaps, educational funds
could be used.
Discussion occurred regazding lake monitoring programs currently being conducted by Anoka County
and member cities. Jankowski suggested that Anoka County be asked what they are doing to assure
lake water quality and that the second generation plan be reviewed to see what data is included.
Weaver agreed and suggested it be determined what responsibilities other agencies have for lake
quality monitoring. He noted that the LRRWMO does not have this responsibility for monitoring
rivers.
Ferguson suggested, since funds have not been allocated in the 1997 budget, to decline this offer but
keep it in mind for next yeaz. In the mean time, he agreed with Tankowski's suggestion to gather data •
that has already been collected.
Weaver asked if the current lake monitoring plan ($700) provides the information being requested
by the Metropolitan Council. Jankowski explained it only determines lake depth and (if done) Secci
Disk readings to determine clarity which is not as extensive as being suggested by the Metropolitan
Council.
Discussion occurred regazding the extent of development surrounding Round, Rogers, and Itaska
Lakes.
The Administrative Secretary was directed to send a letter to the Metropolitan Council declining its
offer and indicating while the LRRWMO has an interest, it has not budgeted for this type of activity
in 1997 and requesting a copy of the report on the 51 lakes they have been monitoring since 1993.
The Administrative Secretary was also asked to call the DNR, PCA, and Anoka County to request
copies of any data they have collected.
REPORT OF OFFICERS
First Ouarter 1996 Reports -Coon Ra ids
Coon Rapids First Quarter 1996 Report not available; placed on January 16, 1997 meeting
agenda. •
Second Ouarter 1996 Reports -Coon Rapids & Ramsev
Jankowski submitted and reviewed the Second Quarter 1996 Report for Ramsey. He advised he will
submit a request for several permit fund balance reimbursements in January of 1997. Jankowski
