The planned future use of the area is primarily urban <br />industrial with existing residential development in the <br />proposed north clear zone. Thus, impacts on vegetation and <br />wildlife which can be attributed to the airport improve- <br />ments are minimal. <br />2.4 SOILS AND GEOLOGY <br />The soils at the site formed in outwash sands of the glacial <br />Mississippi River. The outwash sands are underlain at depth by <br />loam till of the Des Moines lobe of the Wisconsin glaciation. <br />The glacial drift in Anoka County is generally 100 to 250 feet <br />thick and is underlain by limestone and sandstone bedrock. <br />Soil series at the site include Hubbard coarse sand, Dickman <br />sandy loam and Duelm loamy coarse sand. Slopes range between <br />zero to twelve percent on the Hubbard soils and generally less <br />than two percent on the Dickman and Duelm soils. The depth to <br />the seasonal high water table is greater than six feet on the <br />Hubbard and Dickman soils and between two to five feet on the <br />Duelm soils. <br />The majority of soils at the site have slight limitations for <br />development. The soils have generally good bearing capacity, <br />shrink -swell potential is low and potential frost action is low. <br />The Duelm soils have moderate limitations mostly due to shallow <br />depth to seasonal high water table. As shown on Figure 2-10, <br />Duelm soils occur to the south of the proposed runway out of the <br />pavement construction area. <br />2.5 WATER RESOURCES <br />Impermeable surfaces such as runways, hangars, roads and <br />buildings will cover approximately ten (10%) percent of the land <br />area of the airport property. A majority of the stormwater <br />runoff from these areas will be directed to Anoka County Wetland <br />No. 117 east of the airport. In the future, the wetland will be <br />connected to a stormwater system planned by the City of Ramsey <br />to connect to the Mississippi River. The present airport <br />development plan includes provisions for a stormwater retention <br />and sedimentation pond to receive stormwater runoff before its <br />discharge to the wetland if necessary. <br />2.6 FLOOD HAZARD EVALUATION <br />The proposed airport development project is not subject to flood <br />plains. The Mississippi River, approximately 3,000 feet south of <br />the project, has a regional flood plain of 848+ and the airport <br />site elevation is approximately 870.0. <br />2-24 <br />
