2.12 HISTORICAL AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES
The Minnesota Historical Society was contacted regarding
historical or archaelogical sites of state or national
significance. Their response is included in Appendix E and it
indicates that no known sites are in the project area.
A one -acre cemetery plot owned by the City is located on the
airport and is of some local historical interest. Little is
known of the origin or the exact number of people buried in the
plot other than they are thought to be the remains of
approximately nine or ten settlers who died of small pox and
were buried in Ramsey Township. All but a few of the grave
markers have been removed or destroyed over the years. No
access road or path exists to the plot.
No construction is anticipated in this area and thus no
significant impacts are anticipated. The plot does have a
number of trees that penetrate the 7:1 transition surface.
These will be removed and necessary cleanup and restoration will
be accomplished.
2.13 PUBLIC UTILITIES AND SERVICES
The existing facility is all electric and is served by Anoka
Electric Cooperative. Natural gas service is available from
North Central Gas. Both services have adequate capacity to
serve the improved facility.
The existing facility has a private well and an on -site sewage
treatment system.
The well is used for domestic and miscellaneous uses. Water use
forecast for the year 2005 is based on 85 passengers per day at
five (5) gallons per day per passenger, 20 full time employees
at 15 gallons per day per employee and 60 students at five (5)
gallons per day per student. Total forecast daily water use is
1,025 gallons per day. [Water use data derived from Section I -
Water Use, On -Site Sewage Treatment Manual, Minnesota Pollution
Control Agency, 1987.]. Assuming 95% of the daily use is re-
turned to the waste stream, system capacity of approximately 975
gallons per day is required. A new well at this capacity will
have minor impact on the aquifer used for local water supply.
The existing on -site sewage treatment system consists of a
1,000 gallon septic tank and 600 square feet of drainfield
(City of Ramsey building inspection records). The septic
system should be upgraded or replaced to handle the pro-
jected sewage flow. A permit from the City of Ramsey will
be needed for construction of the septic system.
2-47
