The sketches indicate by
raising the southerly end of the runway and by relocating C.S.A.H.
57, a 3,300 foo#:'runway project could meet state 40:1 approach
surface requirements.
Curing previous discussions, an initial shorter runway project was
considered. According to the sketches, to obtain adequate clearances
even fora shorter runway, it would be necessary to relocate C.S.A..H.
57. Either plan, therefore, requires relocation of C.S.A.I-I. 57.
We know from past experience that if this runway is paved, larger
and more sophisticated aircraft will be using it. We are convinced
that it won't be long after the initial improvements until the Cify
will have to expand the airport to its maximum 3,300 foci runway
length.
Since housing development is occurring in the northwest approach,
airport zoning will not be an effective measure to assure continued
safety o-f the approach. We therefore would not participate in the
runway construction unless the ultimate clear zones were acquired
and the buildings removed. It appears to us that six homes and two
businesses vaould have to be acquired to obtain the clear zones.
Also, consideration will have to be given to a public building area
on the airport. Those details will have to be worked out prior to
any land acquisition efforts.
~I n P.yuul Uppuiluntlr hinpLnrr' -
