Nowthen Blvd.
Ramsey, Ma. 55303
,,~„~~~j[[[/// o
.Attentions Tom Gamec, Mayor ~ •, ~~ ;
/~/~l ~~
.Dear Mr. Gamec: p~-
My name is Ken Wagner, and I live at 8410 156th Lane N.W., Ramsey. I
attended th~~,public'hearing on May 16th .covering the developement of an
Airport Master~lan,--and it raised some very disturbing questions that
I feel need to be addressed.
First of all how can you,as Mayor, and the City Council even consider
spending tax dollars on this study when Ramsey is unable to handle the
cost of maintenance items (i.e.a sealcoating streets) without assessing
individual households. Also Ramsey is lacking many needed services
such as warning sirens for severe weather warning (Remember Andover?)
and adequate fire protection. I realize that Ramsey's portion of the
cost of the study was small {$ 8,000,00 to $ 10,000.00), but why spend
money om a study of an airport that I am sure the majority of the
residents of Ramsey will oppose. Have you forgotten the overwhelming
opposition to the proposed airport on the General Mills site? There
are=other. areas that .this money could have been better allocated for.
Secgndlq, it appears to me that the commission is stacked with pro
flying people. Of the eight members on the commission, four are
licensed pilots and one is a former pilot. This is a clear majority
of people who could use and appreciate an upgraded airport. I am not
saying that they will be prejudiced in favor of upgrading the airport
because they are pilots, but as pilots they could be more tolerant of
the potential inconviences and potential problems then a resident who
will have no use. for an airport close to their home.
Third and most alarming is the fact that one of the commission. members
has a blatant conflict of interest. How can you possibly allow a
person, who stands to gain financially by the expansion and upgrading
of,the current airport, sit on the commission that is charged with the
task: of d~tarmining whether or not upgrading 1s feasible. Al so, I am
told that-this individu@1 is not even a resident of Ramsey. I am
totally amazed that this person was even considered for the commission
let alone appointed to serve on it.
