PRELIMINARY AIRPORT LAYOUTS
Two (2) alternative sites have been selected for preliminary review as potential
airport sites in the City of Ramsey. Site #1 is located immediately north of
the Burlington Northern railroad tracks between County Road #83 (Armstrong
Boulevard) and County Road #56 (Ramsey Boulevard) and is immediately west of
the Gateway North Industrial Airport. The General Mills property, located in
the southwest corner of Ramsey to the north and east of the Burlington Northern
tracks, is the second site under consideration.
The proximity of both sites to each other and the zoning of each site is shown in
Figure 2. Site #1 is zoned entirely as industrial property whereas Site #2 is
primarily zoned as a rural service area, but includes a sizeable tract of flood-
way fringe around and between Eddy Lake and Lake Itasca. The floodway limits of
County Ditch #51 - Trott Brook abut the northerly edge of Site #2.
For convenience in preparing the preliminary airport layouts and due to a lack
of existing topography at both sites, the elevations at the ends of the primary
surfaces are assumed to be the same as the roads and railroad tracks which are
crossed in the approach zones and where certain minimum clearances must be main-
tained. In order. to provide the minimum vertical clearances of 15 feet above
roadways and 23 feet above railroad tracks by utilizing the required 40:1
approach slope, the near end of the primary surfaces can be no closer than 600'
and 900' respectively to these traverse ways.
12
