Background of Existing Airport
The existing airport is a privately owned facility constructed as
part of the Gateway North Industrial Park in 1972. Currently there
are 30 aircraft based at the facility. The number of transient air-
craft annually utilizing the facility annually is estimated at 1000
for overnight tie down and 1200 for refueling stops.
The facility has been leased and operated by Anoka Aero, a corporation
based at the facility.
Anoka Vocational - Technical Institute has its air controller and fixed
base operator (FBO) training facilities based at the airport. These
facilities include 3 classrooms with accommodations for 130 students
daily.
B. Re lationship to City's Development and Metropolitan Development Plans
The original Airports Chapter of the Metropolitan Development Guide
provided for a new airport at or near the site of the present facility.
The current updating process of the Airports Chapter recognizes the
existence of the present facility, but assumes no changes in its
operational capability.
1
