I~ <br /> <br /> <br />i~ <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />LJ <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />1 <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br />In January, 1979, a site study of the Gateway North Industrial Airport concluded <br />that development of an airport facility, capable of meeting Federal Aviation <br />Administratign (FAA) and Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) standards, <br />on that site would be very difficult, if not financially impractical, due to <br />serious ground space limitations. The site study further recommended, in view <br />of the demonstrated need and desire for a publicly-owned airport in the Ramsey <br />area, that a search be made for an alternative site. <br />In June, 1980, the Minnesota Department of Transportation approved a two (2) <br />phase Alternative Airport Site Study with the City of Ramsey to investigate and <br />evaluate other potential sites in the area. The first phase, completed in July <br />of 1980, was a Preliminary Site Selection Study which identified and evaluated <br />the following two (2) sites: <br />Site #1: The area immediately north of the Burlington Northern tracks <br />between County Roads #83 (Armstrong Boulevard) and #56 (Ramsey <br />Boulevard); and <br />Site #2: The General Mills property tying generally north of the <br />Burlington Northern tracks and west of Puma Street in the <br />area around Lake Itasca. <br />The Phase I Study report identified the General Mills property, Site #2, as the <br />preferred airport site and recommended that the Phase II Study report, a Detailed <br />1 <br /> <br />
