Lake Elmo Airport <br />Lake Elmo Airport, located east of St. Paul, is a public-use airport <br />owned by MAC (see Fstubit I-g). The airport is located in a rural area with <br />some residential development to the east and southeast. It is identified as <br />a Basic Utility - Stage II facility. The airport role has been designated as <br />reliever. Airport access is via Route 5, which tuns parallel to the west side <br />of the airport. <br />6. St. Paul Downtown Airport <br />St. Paul Downtown Airport is located immediately across the river <br />approximately one mile from the city center (see E~rrbit I-9). The airport <br />is currently constrained by both natural obstacles such as the Mississippi River <br />and urban growth. Airport access is provided by Route 3 and Airport <br />Boulevazd. The airport is classified as a Transport facility and is owned by <br />the MAC. The airport's role is as a general primary reliever for Minneapolis- <br />St. Paul International Airport. Environmental factors such as aircraft noise <br />and land use considerations aze current airport issues that may affect future <br />development. <br />7. South St. Paul Airport <br />South St. Paul Airport is located on the southern border of South St. <br />Paul where it meets Inver Grove Heights (see Exhrbit I-10). Access to the <br />airport is via Interstate 494 at the Fifth Street exit. The airport is primarily <br />suaounded by residential development with an industrial pazk and commercial <br />development on the western side of the airfield. South St. Paul, also known <br />as Fleming Field, is classified as a public-trse airport. The airport's role is a <br />reliever airport. The airport type is listed as General Utility -Stage II. <br />Currently, the airport is owned by the City of South St. Paul. The South St. <br />Paul Board of Aeronautics is responsible for polity related to the operation, <br />maintenance, and development of the airport, according to the Fleming Field <br />Operations Manual The airport occupies 204 acres, some of which aze leased <br />for agricultural purposes. <br /> <br />I-16 <br />
