MEMORANDUM
TO: Merland Otto
f'4G1(
FRAM: Dave Hartley
RE: Airport and Railroad
DATE: March 24, 1987
Councilman Cox suggested that I contact Mr. Pat Kennedy of Burlington
Northern Railroad (Mr. Kennedy is a resident of Ramsey who has
concerns about the airport's impact on the railroad) and in talking
with Mr. Kennedy, he indicated that statutory clearance and practicle
clearance may conflict with the operation of the railroad. Mr.
Kennedy further suggested that railroads frequently carry hazardous
materials including radioactive materials.
Mr. Kennedy suggested that we further investigate this matter by
contacting Mr. Clyde Stack, Minnesota Division Engineer, Burlington
Northern Railroad, 80 - 44th Avenue NE, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55421;
phone 782-3213.
Merland, you and I talked earlier this year about the Minnesota
Department of Transportation's review of the location of the railroad
and that Mn/DOT has a railroad expert which has reviewed this matter.
Perhaps we should collect the communication which has taken place
regarding this and clarify the issue.
DRH:pjc
