Patrick Kennedy
7231 151st Avenue NW (Center -Line Runway)
Ramsey, MN 55303 (Home of the MiniMAirport)
August 22, 1987
Dear Mayor Gary Reiman,/& Council
Here in our neighborhood, the main topic is the proposed Airport expansion, and
the adverse effects it has an our community.
First of all, I would like to complain that a greater number of airplanes have been
flying over my house, a few quite low. Somebody should be policing this. During the
summer months, it's nice to have the windows open, and Airplane noises are more than
just a bother, not to mention the safety compromise of being close to a residential
area with young families and lots of children. 'D Ialanes sometimes crash, and this
concern isn't properly being addressed.
Which gets to the main question: Why? Airport proponents advocate that this venture
will induce great numbers of business' to relocate here, False, It actually will drive
some of our business' away. You already know who these are from your Airport Public
meetings. The Airport Commision Study is quite biased, instead of listening, they just
dictate, and it seems quite a waste to attend these meetings. They also insist on
expanding the existing airport, instead of a larger site. Present location will not
allow for future expansion. If it truelly is a good idea, Good planning would see to
it that this was an option. In other words, there is a place for this Airport, but
not squeezed in between the highway, the city dump, and a Residential Housing Area.
Good planning and good leadership, would not allow this to happen! I'll say it again,
Good planning and good leadership, would not allow this to happen!
Although at present we have a Referendum Type Government in our City, this is only
the case because the people have entrusted our City Council to use proper judgement
on City issues. The Airport issue is of a nature where this City is going into
the Airport Business. This isn't normally a chartered City's main effott, Therefore
I urge that in the best interests of the property owners in our neighborhood to act
properly in our behalf. I believe we are telling you the truth about our concern
for future safety, airport noise, and the loss of market value on our Real Estate.
For everyones sake, I urge that this issue in all fairness, be put to the voters
on a ballot. Irthe people of Ramsey need this Airport as bad as you say, it should
win. If the people of Ramsey don't want it, they should have this right to decide.
There just isn't any other conscience that can decide, Trust the people to make
this choice, after all, you trusted the people to elect you. Please don't sell
us out without a fair vote.
Sincerelly,
P.S.
What is your poition in this matter•
Photo enclosed.
CITY OF RAMSEY: NOT A STAR CITY, BUT HOPE OF UN 'WANTED LANDFILL, AND UN -WANTED, UN -NEEDED
MINI -AIRPORT.
