hil
April 29, 1987
Hakanson
Anderson
Assoc., Inc.
Mr. Arnie Cox
17705 Nowthen Blvd. N.W.
Ramsey, MN 55303
Dear Mr. Cox:
Engineers, Surveyors &
Landscape Architects
REcE1vrn
MAY - 1 1987
Ans'd............
You had requested information regarding the overall progress and
status of the Gateway Airport project and particularly airport
zoning.
In general, the progress is comparable to that of other airports in
the state, that is, it generally takes 8-10 years to move from the
idea stage to an operational stage. As with any project that spans
such a time, the momentum ebbs and wanes due to any number of
factors (e.g., personnel changes, sponsor priorities, agency
reviews, funding limitations, opportunities which may come or go,
etc.). The Council, however, has moved positively when and as
required to continue moving the project along. At this particular
point in the process, there is little the Council can do to make
things move more expeditiously since we are awaiting Mn/DOT and FAA
actions.
As far as the zoning goes, Mn/DOT has indicated that they will
formally review the plan and ordinance after FAA has granted
conditional approvals of the Airport Layout Plan (ALP). With
Council's action last night, we will make the necessary revision
required by FAA and then submit the revised ALP. Concurrently,
Mn/DOT can review the zoning ordinance. After we have received
Mn/DOT's approval, the Council can then set the date for the second
public hearing. I would estimate that the second hearing could
occur in approximately 45-60 days.
Sincerely,
HAKANSON ANDERSON ASSOCIATES, INC.
Merland Otto
/mlc
cc: Dave Hartley, City Admin.
Tom Kurak (resident inquiry)
222 Monroe Street
Anoka, Minnesota 55303
612/427-5860
Eugene J.
