Garbage dumps or landfills located within 5,000 feet <br />(1500 m) of a non -turbojet runway or 10,000 feet (3000 <br />m) of a turbojet runway that may attract birds on or <br />around an airport." <br />"18. ZONING AND LAND USE COMPATIBILITY <br />A. Land use. Unconstrained use of land adjacent to or in <br />the immediate vicinity of the airport can directly <br />affect the efficiency and capacity of the airport. <br />Airport authorities should: <br />(1) Prevent the construction, erection, alteration, or <br />growth of any structure, tree , or other object in <br />the approach areas of the runway or the airport, <br />which would constitute an airport hazard; and <br />(2) Restrict the use of land adjacent to or in the <br />immediate vicinity of the airport to activities <br />and purposes compatible with normal airport <br />operations including landing and takeoff of <br />aircraft. <br />This may be accomplished by acquiring and <br />retaining easements, other interest, or rights for <br />the use of land and airspace; or by adopting and <br />enforcing zoning regulations." <br />State <br />MR7035.160 addresses prohibited areas for landfill siting among <br />which are locations considered hazardous because of the proximity <br />of airports. Conversations with MPCA staff indicates that they <br />utilize the federal standards. The statutes prohibit MPCA from <br />approving permit applications for landfills in those areas. <br />Metropolitan Council <br />The recently updated Aviation Chapter of the Metropolitan <br />Development Guide was adopted by the MC on May 8, 1986.
