4.0 AIRPORT INVENTORY
4.1 Physical Facilities
The present airport consists of a 2500 L.F. x 135 feet
primary runway, oriented 16 -34 and a crosswind runway
approximately 2365 L.F. x 130' oriented 9/27. The runways
are dirt surfaces with like surfaced taxiways from each
runway to the arrival /departure facilities. The runways are
lighted with a low intensity temporary aviation lighting
system (TALS).
The airport has no terminal navigation aids. The arrival/
departure area includes buildings, tee hangars, fuel service
and tie down area. Four buildings are owned by the Anoka
Vocational Technical Institute. The AVTI conducts an avia-
tion program to students pursuing aviation related careers.
One of these buildings serves as an office for the Fixed
Base Operator (FBO) and also serves as an arrival /departure
building. 100LL and 80 octane fuels are available at the
site for aircraft. There are seven tee hangars on the site
along with approximately 40 tie downs available.
Access to the facilities is off of paved County Road 56 and
the access road is a dirt surfaced road.
Refer to Exhibit 4 -1 showing the existing facilities from an
Aerial photograph.
' 4.2 Aircraft Usage Survey
' A survey of area pilots was made to determine aircraft usage
and usage of Gateway North Industrial.
Approximately 320 pilots were sent survey forms and 153
' responded to the survey. Pilots from communities of Anoka,
Ramsey, Elk River, Champlin, Coon Rapids, Andover, Cedar and
Big Lake were contacted through the mailing.
The survey was developed to obtain responses for three (3)
information areas, general, flying and type of aircraft
flown. An extended section was allowed for comments. The
general information section asked for pilot name, home and
business address. The flying information attempted to
determine such things as pilot rating and certification, air
time, flights from Gateway North and reason for flying. The
third section asked for information on type of aircraft
flown. It was also asked if the pilot owned, leased, rented
and had other arrangements. The survey also asked for base
location of the aircraft flown and in particular if based at
Gateway.
The Comment section asked for opinions from the pilots on
what improvements were needed at Gateway and if improvements
are made would the pilots use Gateway.
4 -1
