AIRPORT COMMISSION
CITY OF RAMSEY
'ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA
A public meeting was held by the Ramsey Airport Commission on Wednesday,
May 16, 1984 at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Blvd. N.W.,
Ramsey, Minnesota.
Members Present:
Also Present:
Members Absent:
Mr.
Mr.
Mr.
Mr.
Mr.
Mr.
Mr.
Jack Ippel,
Dennis Donovan
Dick Sieber
Bill Morrow
Ken Patz
John Siebert
Don Greenberg
Chairman
Mr. Larry Koshak of Hakanson/Anderson Engineering
Mr. Merland Otto of Ralph Burke & Associates
Ms. Jeanne Moen
Mr. Chuck Soderholm
CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Ippel called the public meeting to order at 7:38 p.m.
PUBLIC MEETING
Chairman Ippel stated that the purpose of this meeting is to bring the citizens
up to date with regards to what the Commission has been doing so far. Chairman
Ippel stated that Council decided to•,set up an airport commission with the
intent.of looking at the feasibility of taking Gateway North Industrial Airport
and making it into a municipal facility. This Airport Commission was formed by
Council resolution and consists of 9 members. When the Commission began meeting,
we found there were many questions and nobody was able to give much in the way of
answers. Representatives from Mn/DoT were able to answer some of our questions
and they suggested we develop and prepare an Airport Master Plan. We then
received a proposal from Hakanson/Anderson for an Airport Master Plan; we obtained
City and.State approval for the study; State participation in the cost of the
study is 80% and City participation in the cost is 20%. This study is aimed at
getting some answers to our questions so that at some point in time we as a
Commission can make a recommendation to Council on what we feel would be the
way to go; the study also gives Council information that they need to make a
decision based on facts.
Chairman Ippel then read Resolution *83-165 defining the Airport Commission and
it's task.
Chairman Ippel stated that the Commission is looking at taking the airport as it
now exists -- publicly used and privately owned -- and making it a municipal
facility.
Chairman Ippel then read excerpts from "A Study Of The Socio-Economic Impact
AP/May 16, 1984
