the County Seat, Princeton is doing much better because of the
airport.
Virgil Barnes - 2807 Taylor Street - Stated that he is Airport
Manager at Gateway and has visited many small towns with small
airports and most of those towns are progressing or planning to
progress or expand. The airport traffic levels we are talking
about at Gateway in the near future would be no greater than
the traffic level at Gateway 5 years ago. The initial local
investment will be off -set 3 or 4 fold by the revenue generated
from the airport being there,
Commissioner Sieber referred to the local investment and the
multiplying affect coming back to the City 3 or 4 fold and pointed
out that in the best of cases, it would mean a 10-15% margin for
Ramsey.
Chairman Tppel referred to Mr. Babcock's comment that -one small
store will.generate $40,000 in revenue for Ramsey and inquired
as to what Ramsey has out here now that will attract that business
to locate in Ramsey. He further commented that a growing
industrial park creates jobs and even if those employees don't
live in Ramsey they will patronize businesses in the area. To
develop an industrial park you need an attraction and an airport
is an attraction that draws.
Commissioner Greenberg agreed and stated that a good portion of
his business comes from -employees of businesses in the area.
Commissioner Sieber pointed out that an increase in business can
also be attributed to the increase in population in Ramsey.
Doug Lida. R Stated that supply and demand determines home values
and an increase in employment -opportunities in Ramsey would
increase the demand for homes. Mr. Leda also stated that first
impressions also determine -property values and first impressions
you get coming into Ramsey on Cty. Rd. #47 and Sunfish Blvd. are
not good.
Chairman Ippel adjourned the public meeting at 10:36 p.m,
Respectfully submitted,
Sy1via Frolik
Secretary
AP/August 22, 1984
Public Meeting
