The following is a brief summary of actions taken in May that may be of interest
to the Planning Commission:
Highway. 10 Performance Standards. The City Council met in Work Session on May 4, 2010 to
discuss enforcement of performance standards along Highway 10. Discussion included regulation of
temporary signs, long grass, salvage, and paving standards. Consensus was to enforce the temporary sign
ordinance with the introduction of a Temporary Sign Permit for lazger temporary signs. A proposed
ordinance is on tonight's agenda for consideration of inclusion of a temporary sign permit. Consensus
was also reached to enforce properties engaging in salvage operations, ensure that outside storage is
adequately screened, and focus enforcement of paving standards for existing properties in the front yard,
especially of approaches to the roadway. Enforcement shall continue on a complaint basis, with focus on
the lazgest offenses.
Regulation of Non-domestic animals. The City Council met in Work Session on May 4, 2010 to discuss
possible amendments. to the City's regulation of non-domestic animals on smaller lots. Discussion
included allowing some egg producing fowl or milk producing cow or goat, and bee-keeping. Consensus
was to research possible ordinance changes to include smaller animals such as chickens, rabbits, etc. on
quarter acre lots. Roosters would continue to be prohibited due to noise concerns. It was also suggested
to include additional setbacks for chicken coops.
PC: 06.03.2010
39
