<br />Ms. Thompson stated that wouldn't hurt anything. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen expressed concern about anatomical body parts being <br />drawn/painted on the statue. <br /> <br />Mr. Fischer stated they are hoping to be able to move forward with this. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works Olson stated that moving it to the west does eliminate one of <br />his concerns. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen suggested maybe the park is built first and then we figure out <br />where the memorial will go. He stated he is open to having it in this park; he just isn't <br />sure exactly where would be the best spot. He added that they do need to look at what <br />groups get to put a memorial in parks and what groups do not. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey stated that we let the Lions contribute buildings in Central Park <br />and other service organizations that come to the table should be allowed to put things in <br />parks. He stated he wanted to give the Rotary Club the green light and asked if there was <br />a consensus of the Council to allow the Rotary Club to move forward with their plans. <br /> <br />Mr. Fischer inquired if the Council is okay with the Rotary Club advertising this area in <br />our marketing material. <br /> <br />Mayor Ramsey stated his concern with that is we do not know the name of the park for <br />sure. <br /> <br />City Administrator Ulrich suggested marketing it as a City Memorial Garden Park Project <br />supported by donations of the Rotary and independent companies. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGlone inquired how this plan got this far. <br /> <br />Mr. Olson stated that this is not a new plan. There have been Councilmembers involved <br />in getting this in a City park. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGlone stated he did not think a spot was picked or permIssIon <br />granted. <br /> <br />Mayor Ramsey stated that's why they are here. It will be a City memorial park. <br /> <br />Councilmember Look stated that we need to talk to the City Attorney about <br />discrimination. <br /> <br />Mayor Ramsey asked City Administrator Ulrich to have staff talk to the League of <br />Minnesota cities to clear up any potential legal issues. <br /> <br />City Council Work Session - March 30, 2010 <br />Page 5 of7 <br />
