CC Case # -] , pa
AUTHORIZATION TO APPOINTMENT AN
ELECTRICAL INSPECTIONS CONTRACTOR
By: Colleen Lasher, Human Resources Technician
Background:
In 2009, the City Council expressed interest in establishing an electrical inspections
program. An RFP was approved by the City Council and the City received five proposals
Staff interviewed all five contractors who expressed interest in this role. In addition, as
required by Minnesota Statutes, Section 326B.36, Subd. 6, City Council adopted the
necessary ordinance to establish an electrical inspections program in the City. The
request for City Council to adopt an ordinance establishing permit fees will be presented
to City Council in another case by Mick Kaehler, Building Official.
Recommendation:
Staff is recommending that Mr. Peter Tokle of Tokle Inspections, Inc. be appointed as the
City's contracted electrical inspector.
Funding Source:
Bringing electrical inspections in house. will allow the city to retain the portion of the
permit fees that would have otherwise gone to the state of Minnesota. Consequently,
there are no funding requirements to establish an electrical inspections program in the
City of Ramsey. However, as mentioned at the Apri127, 2010 work session, the number
of electrical inspections is currently down, but when they pick up, the need for
administrative staff will also increase.
Council Action:
Make the following motions:
1. Motion to appoint Mr. Peter Tokle of Tokle Inspections, Inc. for contracted
electrical inspections es to begin on or near August 1, 2010.
Revi d y
ty Administrator
CC: 07-13-10
